A DAY IN THE LIFE Our GIS Manager (Senior Environmental Professional) is located in Newport Beach, CA, but can be performed Remotely within the Western US Region. The GIS Manager is responsible for leading, guiding, and mentoring the Geospatial Services Group (GSG ) teams, and managing projects within the environmental and utility space. This role involves close collaboration with the Director, supporting portfolio and growth initiatives, and identifying opportunities for innovation and process improvement within the GSG. As a key member of the team, this role will be responsible for a full range of activities, including: Manage GSG teams and projects. Define best practices and streamline processes across GSG. Serve as the customer interface with the GSG Director, depending on the client. Track budgets, schedules, resource utilization, risks, and risk mitigation plans, issues, and delivery. Perform or direct the most advanced geospatial analysis and programming. Manage contracts. Lead and supervise technical team members with effectiveness and precision to ensure smooth operations and maximize productivity. Set daily and weekly priorities, review timesheets, and conduct annual reviews of staff. Support the Director with recruiting, interviewing, and onboarding. Establish and maintain strong client relationships, ensuring project deliverables meet their expectations. Stay up-to-date with GIS and geospatial analysis trends, technologies, and best practices. Collaborate with other departments to integrate GIS solutions into broader projects. Identify opportunities for innovation and process improvement within the GSG. Provide training and guidance to staff on new GIS technologies and methodologies. Participate in professional organizations and conferences to stay connected with the GIS community and contribute to thought leadership. Access to attractive student loan rates to optimize your student loan payoff plans YOUR EXPERTISE AND SKILLS To perform this job successfully, individuals must be able to perform each duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements below represent the required knowledge, skill, and/or ability. Bachelor's Degree in GIS, Geography, Computer Science, Biology, Geology Anthropology, Archaeology, Environmental Sciences, or closely related field. Master's Degree or equivalent experience. 10 years' experience managing geospatial projects. Evidence of successful management of projects, including maintaining budgets and schedules and producing high-quality client deliverables. Leadership skills and the ability to work as a team member. Strong technical writing and oral communication skills. Ability to interact with internal and external clients and represent the firm in a highly productive capacity. Expert-level experience with Esri software, including ArcGIS Desktop and Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise, AGOL, Portal, AGOL, and Survey123 and Field Maps. Advanced Python scripting experience: Comprehension, editing, and creation. Mentoring of GSG staff. Experience with database management systems, such as SQL Server and PostgreSQL. Familiarity with web mapping technologies, such as JavaScript, HTML5, and web mapping APIs (e.g., Leaflet, Mapbox). Knowledge of remote sensing principles and techniques. Experience with spatial data modeling and analysis. Project management certification (e.g., PMP) is a plus. Experience working in environmental consulting or related fields. Additional Requirements: Utilization Level > 60% (24 billable hours/week). Fully develop existing clients' pipelines and upcoming needs. Help prepare proposals with scope, schedule, and budget.
